UCLA-LIVESTRONG™ Survivorship Center of ExcellenceOne in three individuals will develop cancer in their lifetime. Thanks to advances in cancer screening and treatment, there are currently over 10.6 million cancer survivors in America. Most of these survivors enjoy a disease-free survival. However, as a result of treatment, some people experience long-term side effects that impair physical and emotional recovery. Many post-treatment cancer patients do not know what kind of follow-up care they should receive. Common questions include:
With funding from the Lance Armstrong Foundation and other philanthropic supporters, our Center has become the focal point of survivorship activities at the Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center and UCLA Healthcare. We are developing models of health care delivery to meet the physical and psychosocial needs of all types of cancer survivors. Our Center offers cutting edge research on survivorship issues, high-quality clinical care for both pediatric and adult cancer survivors, and community outreach and education on the importance of cancer survivorship.
Journey Forward – Guiding Survivors as They Move AheadUCLA is part of a first-of-its-kind program designed to help recovering cancer patients.
